A fine Victorian mahogany marquetry long

A fine Victorian mahogany marquetry longcase clock of tall proportions by Maple & Co. London. With fluted caddy top having brass finials, carved acanthus column supports flanking the hood and central trunk, with blind fret carved side panels and fluted pilasters to the base. Inlaid in the Sheraton style with linen swags and baskets of flowers. With gilt brass square dial adorned with spandrels, having silvered chapter ring and subsidiary seconds. Housing an eight day three train movement striking quarterly, Westminster and Whittington with eight bells, four chimes and a gong, 269cm. 53cm wide, 35.5cm deep.

Passed to her daughters on her death by her first husband, Elizabeth Smyth, who married Robert Ramsden, Wigthorpe Hall Nr Worksop and by family descent until sold at Christies June 1977.
